No Bones About It…(2016)

Performance at Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin

The choices made by those who were instrumental in the 1916 Rebellion, both men and women, and the men and women who still choose to sacrifice their lives in conflicts all over the world can be inspiring. Working with driftwood found near her home in Lacken, Co. Wicklow, Cummins’ performance reflects on mortality and on the victims of wars.   The performance looks at the forensics that must occur when bodies are found in mass graves or in lonely mountain sites. Make no bones about it, is a saying that suggests that you say what you mean in a way that leaves no doubt. To sacrifice your own life does this in no uncertain terms. To sacrifice other lives is more debatable. The bodies of the 1916 leaders were buried with quicklime.

No Bones About It… was a 4 hour performance in Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, Ireland. It was part of Future Histories (2016).
